Vet Assistant in Training
Veterinary Technician
Ever since she can remember, April has wanted to act as a voice for animals. After all, pets rely on humans to make important decisions about their care—April feels a responsibility to do all that she can to help! She gets to care for animals daily as a Licensed Veterinary Technician here at Animal Care Center.

Originally from Colorado, April moved with her family to Nevada in 1990. She attended the University of Nevada in Reno to study veterinary medicine, and passed her national exam to become a licensed Technician after graduation. After purchasing a home in Fernley, she joined the Animal Care Center team in December of 2008.

April especially enjoys the math and science involved in the veterinary profession. She loves calculating dosages, and says that she could draw blood and place IV lines all day! Most of all, April likes to see an animal go home from the clinic healthy and happy.

At home, April lives with her two cats, Pecan and Cashew, both of whom were adopted from the local SPCA. When she isn’t spending time with her cats or tending to the needs of pets around the clinic, April enjoys reading a good book. She also enjoys the occasional adrenaline-pumping activity; she’s been skydiving once and plans to go again, and has even bungee-jumped six times!
Monica Sempel
Office Manager
Raised in the woods of rural Montana, Monica was constantly surrounded by animals—she likes to say she grew up on the back of a horse! She’s always felt that animal care was her natural calling, and now she gets to serve pets and their owners every day as the Office Manager here at Animal Care Center.

After studying veterinary medicine at Montana State University, Monica took time off to raise her family in Nevada. Ten years later, she was itching to get back into the workforce, and her love of animal care hadn’t wavered. She joined the Animal Care Center family in May of 2012 and couldn’t be happier; the constant learning experience and day-to-day challenges make it all worth it for Monica!

Monica and her daughter, Sydney, share their home with several pets. Jimmie is a feisty Boston Terrier mix who loves chasing anything that moves, Dudley the Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix considers himself Monica’s personal sidekick, Yoda is a goofy, barking, chihuahua, two very independent cats, Callisto and Elara, and a handful of chickens.
Veterinary Technician
Although she had enjoyed the company of animals since she was a little girl, Cecelia never considered working in veterinary medicine until she needed a job to support her young daughter. She thought that working in a vet’s office would be fun, so she signed up. Little did she know that it would ignite a life-long adoration for animal care and turn into a passionate and rewarding career!

Originally from Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Cecelia secured her first veterinary job in Reno, Nevada when her family veterinarian took on a business partner and needed extra help. She learned the profession from the ground up before transitioning to a clinic in San Pablo, California to become a surgeon’s assistant. After relocating to Indiana and beginning at another pet hospital there, Cecelia decided to advance her animal-care education and signed up for the veterinary technology program at Columbus Technical Institute (now known as Columbus State Community College).

Cecelia graduated magna cum laude in 1987, then spent the next eight years at a nearby veterinary hospital before getting married and moving to Michigan. After another eight years at a veterinary clinic there, she moved to northern Nevada, where she would spend the next 13 years caring for the area’s pets and developing a special interest in veterinary dentistry.

Cecelia joined the Animal Care Center family in the fall of 2015 after reconnecting with the hospital’s very own April, whom Cecelia had previously mentored during April’s education. Aside from her passion for veterinary dentistry, Cecelia enjoys educating clientele on the best possible care techniques for their pets and serving as an advocate for the all-important bond between humans and animals.

In her time away from work, Cecelia enjoys gardening, making fruit preserves, sewing, and serving as a Girl Scout troop leader. She and her husband, Ray, have three children and share their home with Cecelia’s mother, two dogs named Brooke and Dino, and a pair of recently adopted kittens named Percy and Wolfie.
Client Care Specialist and Veterinary Technician Assistant
Born and raised in northern Nevada, Rachel spent much of her childhood assisting her mother with various animal-rescue efforts. She’s been passionate about pet care ever since she was a little girl! For Rachel, working in the veterinary field allows her to spend time with the animals she loves while making a true impact in the community.

Rachel joined the Animal Care Center family in October of 2016 and serves as a Front Office Assistant. She couldn’t be happier to begin her veterinary journey here at the clinic, and is particularly passionate about interacting directly with clients and making visiting pets feel as comfortable as possible. Rachel also likes the fast-paced nature of her work; no two days are ever quite the same!

In her time away from work, Rachel enjoys dabbling in arts and crafts—she even makes wine-bottle decorations and personalized wreaths for friends and family—and spending time with her husband and young son at home. She and her family share their lives with a Boston terrier, Sherlock, who likes to think he can go on walks all by himself, and a Dachshund mix named Oscar who makes it his mission to protect all family members.
Client Care Specialist
Heidi has had animals in her life since before she can remember. Since they have always been a key part of her family structure, she understands the deep bond between humans and furry companions. She has 30 years of customer service experience and a a lifetime of compassion and understanding of animals. As a child, Heidi used to watch Dr. Doolittle over and over again and knew from that moment that she wanted to care (and talk!) to animals.

She really enjoys dermatology within her field because it can sometimes be extremely challenging and keeps her on her toes. Aside from loving being a part of the amazing staff at Animal Care Center, Heidi enjoys the privilege to interact with animals on a daily basis- it is considered to her to be "the best type of soul food".

Client Care Specialist
As a Client Care Specialist, Chelsea loves to be the smiling face in the front office that greets all clients and patients. She cares deeply for the health and well-being of all and feels very compassionately when it comes to animals... she's often a real "softy" as she refers to animals as family members that speak a different language. She enjoys being able to meet new people and furry friends.

Chelsea grew up in Montana and moved to Nevada in 2005. Although she had many cats in her household growing up, she was always more of a dog person. Ashley currently has 1 dog named London that she adopted from the SPCA in Reno (who is 4-5 years old) and she has 2 snakes named Lucy and Stark.
